State Minister for Information Advocate Tarana Halim today underscored the need for empowering women not only in the economic arena but also in the political arena to ensure women empowerment in a true sense.
"Political advancement of women is must to ensure their empowerment in a true sense," she told a seminar marking International Women's Day at PKSF Bhaban in the city, said a press release, reports BSS.
Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) organized the seminar chaired by its chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad while Social Welfare Secretary Md Zillar Rahman and writer Selina Hossain also addressed it.
Terming the incumbent government as women-friendly one, Halim said the country's womenfolk is stepping forward in every sector of society because of the government's time-befitting steps for the women empowerment. She also stressed on changing the mindset of people of all classes towards women to eliminate gender discrimination.
Addressing the seminar, Kholiquzzaman said social, economic and educational advancement of women is must to attain Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He laid emphasis on ensuring equality of opportunities to smooth the women's path to every arena of society.
Supplementing his address, Selina expressed her optimism that the country will go ahead with ensuring equal opportunity for all.
PKSF conferred special honor on Begum Rokeya, executive director of non- government organization Swabalambi Unnayan Samity (SUS) for her contribution to the development of women on the occasion.
