Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader is now holding a meeting with the delegation of quota demonstrators at his secretariat office in the capital this afternoon.

Private TV station News24, a sister concern of the daily Kalerkantha, has confirmed the news.

A 20-member delegation was invited into Bangladesh Secretariat to meet Quader and other leaders of ruling Awami League.

The demonstrators of quota reform movement have given an ultimatum to the authorities concerned, demanding the immediate release of their detained fellows.

At least 50 people, including five journalists, were injured as police launched an assault on the anti-quota demonstration held at the Shahbagh intersection in the capital on Sunday evening.

Police fired rubber bullets, used water cannons and lobbed teargas canisters to remove the protesters from Shahbagh intersection around 8pm in the night.

The job seekers and students of various educational institutions in the capital and elsewhere in the country have been demonstrating against the existing quota system in the government recruitment processes for more than a decade.

As part of their ongoing demonstration, a group of protesters blocked the Shahbagh intersection yesterday afternoon.
