Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today said that the electronic voting machines might be used in the next general election on a trial basis.
He also said: “The authorities of the Election Commission will decide on using the EVMs in the upcoming national polls and their decision is finale here.”
The minister came up with the comments while briefing reporters after the weekly Ecnec meeting held at the NEC conference room in the capital with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
The planning minister also said: “The EVM project will be placed in the next meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) for its approval.”
Mustafa Kamal also informed the Election Commission has designed a project proposal to procure some 1.5 lakh EVMs at a cost of Tk 3,821 crore and sent it to the Planning Commission for clearance.
“In the polls, we have to go to EVM system today or tomorrow. It's a mechanical thing so everyone needs training,” the minister echoed.
