BNP will hold nationwide protest rallies at every district demanding the release of the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail, proper treatment and holding a free, fair and credible national election under a non-party government.

The party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement at a rally held at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Sunday (today).

The party also placed a seven-point demand at their rally, placing demand for Khaleda Zia’s unconditional release on the top of their agenda.

“On October 3, we will also submit memorandums to the district and deputy commissioners across the country to press home our demands,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.

Earlier, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been made a symbolic chief guest at the BNP rally. An empty chair wrapped in a white cloth thought to be the chair of the chief guest on the stage at the rally venue.

Hundreds of leaders and activists of the BNP have gathered at the rally venue at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital. The formal activities of the rally were started at 2pm while the party members started coming to the venue from 11am.

The party yesterday got permission from the authorities of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to hold its scheduled public rally.

DMP authorities have given them written permission on 22 conditions to hold the rally.

On Sept 24, BNP sought permission from the authorities concerned to hold a public rally either at Suhrawardy Udyan or in front of their party’s Nayapaltan headquarters on September 27.

Failing to get permission, they deferred the rally to September 29. Later, they again rescheduled the rally for Sunday as the DMP authorities did not give the permission to arrange the rally.
