Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda today said that a small team of Army would be deployed in the country after Dec 15 ahead of the 11th parliamentary polls scheduled to be held on December 30.

“The small team of Army will be deployed in each district across the country and they will be assigned to coordinate with the other law-enforcement agencies and magistrates during the polls,” EC boss added.

KM Nurul Huda made the comments while meeting with the members of law-enforcement agencies at the EC secretariat in Dhaka on Thursday (today).

Four commissioners of the EC, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Secretary of Public Security Division of the Home Ministry, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner and other high officials of different law enforcement agencies attended the meeting.

Pointing to BNP regarding their reports of arrests, the chief Election Commissioner, however, said: “No BNP leader and activist has been arrested after we announced the election schedule.”

KM Nurul Huda also instructed law-enforcement agencies not to harass presiding officers.

On November 8, a fresh election schedule was announced by the Election Commission and according to the new date, the general election would be held on December 30.
