The authorities of Election Commission (EC) are scheduled to sit today in a bid to make a decision of how and in which places the electronic voting machines will be used in the upcoming general election.
The EC is going to introduce the EVM system despite strong opposition from the Jatiya Oikyafront, the newly formed opposition political alliance, in the country.
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Hud earlier said the Election Commission is planning to use electronic voting machines (EVMs) in around 100 out of the 300 constituencies in the 11th parliamentary polls.
The CEC also said that the EC would not backtrack on its decision to use EVMs on a limited scale in the elections.
“A small team of Army would be deployed in the country after Dec 15 ahead of the 11th parliamentary polls scheduled to be held on December 30,” he added.
On November 8, a fresh election schedule was announced by the Election Commission and according to the new date, the general election would be held on December 30.
