Sri Lanka have retained top order batsman Kusal Mendis for the upcoming two-match T20I series in Bangladesh after Kusal Perera, who was initially named in the 15-member squad, was ruled out of the series following medical advice on Tuesday.
Perera, who played the first leg of the tri-series in Bangladesh was ruled out with a side strain but was named in the T20 squad. However, the 27-year-old didn't travel to Bangladesh with the rest of the T20 specialists on Monday.
Perera faced a long six-month layoff after hurting his hamstring during the Champions Trophy in England in June. He returned during the T20 series in India and finished with 100 runs in three innings including a top score of 77 in the second game in Indore. He scored 130 runs in three innings in the tri-series in Bangladesh with a top score of 80 before being forced to return home early.
Mendis, who was making a comeback to the side after being dropped for the tour of India, finished the Test series against Bangladesh with 271 runs at an average of 90.
The tourists have been plagued by injuries with captain Angelo Mathews forced to return home early with a hamstring injury after just one game of the tri-nation series.
