Tourists won by six wickets with 20 balls remaining after Bangladesh posted a total of 193/5 in 20 overs against Sri Lanka in the first T20I of the two-match series at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
Chasing 194, they came out all guns blazing after a quiet first over though riding on some terrific batting efforts from Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah, Bangladesh pushed Sri Lanka on the backfoot in the early hours of the play.
Chasing the Bangladesh's total, Sri Lanka started off the chase but lost wickets in quick succession in the middle overs. Later, Dasun Shanaka and Thisara Perera held the innings together and guided their team over the line.
Opener Kusal Mendis made 53 runs off 27 balls while other opener Gunathilak scrored 30 off 15. Shanaka and Thisara Perera was unbeaten 42 and 39 respectively.
Nazmul Islam was the best of Bangladeshi bowlers, taking two wickets while Rubel and Afif picked one wicket each.
Earlier, Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah Riyad won the toss and decided to bat first. The Tigers scored a challenging total of 193 for 5 from 20 overs, thanks to brilliant batting display from Musfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar and captain Mahmudullah.
Mushfiqur was unbeaten on 66 off 44 balls. Opener Soumya got his form and made brilliant 51 while Mahmudullah played a 43-run innings.
