The Windies batsman leaves his autograph on the glass pane he smashed in the Harare Sports Club press box
Rovman Powell had scored only 20 runs in his first 50 balls against Ireland in their Group A game of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018, but then stepped it up many gears to get to 101 from 100 balls. All from No. 7, after he had walked in at 83/5.
The last six of his seven for the innings was massive – down the ground, soaring over everyone, and smashing one of the glass panes of the press box. Powell sank to his knees, fists pumping, as he celebrated memorable innings.
He was done for the day, getting out soon after, but he had done enough to take Windies to 257/8, and Ireland managed only 205 in reply. Windies made it three in three with the win and booked their place in the Super Sixes of the tournament as a result.
Later, after playing the lead in scripting the victory for his team, Powell went over to the press box and signed the broken glass, leaving a nice memory there for people visiting the Harare Sports Club.
