Women T20I: South Africa beat Bangladesh by 17 runs

Bangladesh women’s cricket team started their three-match T20I series against host South Africa (SA) with a 17-run loss in the 1st match at Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Thursday.

Chasing a target of 128 runs, Bangladesh finished the innings on 110 for 5 in 20 overs where Rumana Ahmed (36 off 41b; 3x4), Fargana Hoque (35 off 37b; 4x4) and Fahima Khatun (12* off 13b; 1x4) were double digit scorers for the side.

Shabnim Ismail got three-for economic 19 runs in four overs while Raisibe Ntozakhe (1/10) and Masabata Klaas(1/21) equally shared two wickets for the winners.

Batting first after winning the toss, SA women scored 127 for 6 in 20 overs with Lizelle Lee’s top-scoring 46 off 38, including six boundaries and one six.

L Lee was bowled out by spinner Khadija Tul Kubra on 77/2 in 10.2 overs after sharing a 77 off 9.4 overs in the opening stand with Laura Wolvaardt, who was stumped by Shamima Sultana off Rumana Ahmed.

Number-7 Suné Luus hit unbeaten 28* off 23 balls, including two boundaries and one six, while Marizanne Kapp (11 off 16b) was another double digit scorer for the side.

Khadija captured three-for 23 runs in four overs while Rumana (2/19) and skipper Salma Khatun (1/12) shared three wickets for Bangladesh.

The next two matches between the two sides will be held at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on May 18 and 20.
