Defending champions Rangpur Riders suffered a three-wicket defeat against Chittagong Vikings in the opening match of the sixth season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Saturday.
The Vikings chased down 99-run target in 19.1 overs with three wickets in hand, thanks to brilliant batting from Mohammad Shahzad (27) and captain Mushfiqur Rahim (25).
Riders captain Mashrafe Mortaza captured two wickets.
Earlier, Rangpur Riders were all-out for 98 runs. Ravi Bopara was the best of the Rangpur batsmen scoring 44 runs while Sohag Gazi made 21.
Vikings’ South African medium pacer Robbie Frylinck took four wickets for 14 runs while off-spinner Nayeem Hasan and Abu Jayed picked up two wickets each.
