Prime accused in Mymensingh teenager murder held

The prime accused in the murder case of Mymensingh teenager, Akkas Ali alias Akka, has been arrested from Kishoreganj district early Friday.

Confirming the arrest, Md Sajjad Hossain, senior assistant director of Rab-14, said: "Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-14 captured Akka from Bhairab upazila around 2:30am."

The 18-year-old youth, Sagar Miah, who used to sell abandoned things, had been beaten to death for allegedly stealing a water machine in the Mymensingh's Gauripur upazila.

Witnesses claimed that Akka, the owner of a local hatchery located on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj highway, and his men tied Sagar to an electric pole and beat up mercilessly, suspecting him to be a thief.

Later, they threw his body in a roadside field when the boy succumbed to his injuries on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. 

Soon after the incident happened, a photo and a video footage, that showed how the youth was beaten to death, went viral on Facebook early Monday.

Sagar's father Shipon Miah filed a  case accusing six named and four unnamed people including Akka, with Gouripur Police Station.
