4 workers die in Sylhet stone extraction site

At least four extraction workers have been killed after a pit caved in and buried them at a stone extraction site at Jaflong area in Sylhet on Tuesday afternoon.

Three others were also sent to a local hospital for treatment.

Of the deceased, one is identified as Nur Mia, 50, son of Mofiz Ullah of Mirpur village at Jagannathpur upazila in Sunamganj district while the injured are Sadek Mia, Helal Mia and Mizanur Rahman.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of four workers with the help of locals, police and eyewitnesses said.

Gowainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Delowar Hossain has confirmed the news.

He said: "Four workers including a female worker were buried under the stone during an illegal extraction work around 4:45pm.”
