Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif today said Islam does not permit killing and burning people.
"Being the religion of peace, Islam cannot support killing people by attacking mosques," he said, speaking as the chief guest at the annual waz mahfil at Thaha Islamia Fazil Madrasha under Shibpur union of Atguaria upazilla in the district.
Sharif said the country was liberated under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through the ninth-month bloody war of liberation, reports BSS.
He said religion is for individuals but the state is for all and the government is pledge-bound to ensure the security of all.
The land minister said that Bangladesh has given shelter to hundreds of thousands of Rohingya people fleeing persecution in Myanmar's western Rakhine state. Earlier, Shamsur Rahman Sharif inaugurated the newly built two-storey modern building of Taha Islamia Fazil Degree Madrasa.
