President M Abdul Hamid will address a martyrs' memorial meeting and freedom fighters' reception at Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur today on the occasion of the "First Armed Resistance Day".
"The President is scheduled to address a martyrs' memorial meeting and a freedom fighters' reception in Gazipur today afternoon," a Bangabhaban spokesman said, according to BSS report.
The 19th March, 1971 is a unique day in the history of country's Liberation War as the freedom-loving people, under the directive of the Father of the Nation, had launched the first armed attack on the Pakistani forces in Joydebpur.
On this day, several freedom fighters, including Hormut, Niamat and Monu K Halifa, made their supreme sacrifices.
After the incident, slogans started to be chanted across the country - ''Go through the path of Joydebpur and do free Bangladesh."
It was told that the attack launched by the freedom fighters inspired the Bengalees in earning the long-cherished independence in 1971.
