One killed in Jhenaidah ‘gunfight’

An alleged robber has been killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Bhaturia area in Harinakunda upazila on Tuesday night.

The deceased is Amirul Islam Pocha, 43, son of Rahim Box, at Vyna village in the upazila.

"A total of three members of RAB have also received injuries during the gunfight," Assistant Superintendent of RAB-6 Golam Morshed has confirmed the news.

He said: “The members of RAB had set up a check-post in the area earlier in the day. While passing through the check-post, an alleged gang of robbers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back.”

Later, the bullet-hit body of Pocha has been recovered and sent to Harinakundu Upazila Health Complex for medical examination.

“One shutter gun, two bullets and a sharp weapon were also seized from the spot,” the RAB official said further.
