The voting in the elections to Rajshahi, Barishal and Sylhet City Corporations has been ended around 4pm today, amid allegations of widespread vote rigging and manipulation.

The balloting in the three cities was started at 8am and continued till 4pm without any break.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that Awami League activists have ousted the BNP’s agents from polling stations during the elections to Rajshahi, Barishal, and Sylhet City Corporations today.

In a reaction, BNP also alleged that the administration and the law enforcers failed to control irregularities during the polls to the three cities.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came up with the allegations while addressing a press conference held at the party’s Nayapaltan central headquarters in the capital today.

The BNP has also boycotted the elections to Barisal City Corporation, alleging widespread vote rigging and manipulation.

BNP-backed mayoral candidate Mujibur Rahman Sarwar made the announcement a press conference at Barisal Press Club around 12pm.

On the other hand, at least 20 people were injured in a tripartite clash between the supporters of Awami League and Jamaat-e-Islami-backed mayor aspirants and police at Kazi Jalaluddin Multilateral High School polling centre in Sylhet.
