Around 25 shanties have been gutted in a devastating fire at a Rohingya slum at Chakmarkul in Teknaf on Tuesday night.
The slum, a few kilometres away from the unregistered Rohingya camp Leda in the area, is set on fire around 12:30am, local and police sources told reporters.
Ranjit Barua, acting officer-in-charge (OC) of the Teknaf Police Station, has confirmed the news.
“The cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately but firefighting units brought the flames under control,” the OC further said.
“The slum dwellers were safely evacuated,” he added.
