Two killed over land dispute in Lalmonirhat

At least two people were killed while three others also received injuries in a clash over a land-related dispute at Gilabari area under Shaptibari union in the district’s Aditmari upazila this morning.

The deceased are Abdul Jalil Miah, 50 and Golam Rabbani, 45 of Gilabari village.

Aditmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masud Rana has confirmed the news.

He said: “There had been a long-standing dispute among villagers in the area over the ownership of a piece of land. Over the previous enmity, the supporters of one Khalek in the village swooped on Jalil this morning that triggered a fierce clash between the groups, leaving Jalil killed on the spot and injuring four others.”

“Rabbani declared dead when he was taken to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital,” the OC said.

The situation in the area is now under control, he added.
