A three-member probe body, headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Nur Kutubul Alam, has been formed to probe Tuesday’s clash between villagers and members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) that left three people killed and several injured.
The probe body was formed on Tuesday night, says Deputy Commissioner Dr KM Kamruzzaman.
At least three villagers were killed and several others, including BGB members received injuries when BGB men opened fire during a clash with some alleged cattle smugglers at Bahrampur village in Haripur upazila on Tuesday morning.
Lt Col Tuhin Mohammad Masud, commanding officer of BGB Thakurgaon-50 Battalion, however, said: “The cattle smugglers attacked BGB men while they were returning after seizing several smuggled cows on the day, forcing them to open fire in self-defense.”
He also said that five BGB men were injured during the clash when some local arms also seized after the clash.
“We are taking preparations to lodge a case in this connection,” he added.
