The High Court on Wednesday declared that taking additional fees in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations is illegal.
The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order, responding to a plea. Advocate Mizanur Rahman has confirmed the news.
Deputy Attorney General Taposh Kumar Bishwas took part in the hearing on behalf of the government.
The court also asked the school authorities to refund the additional fees that were taken earlier within next thirty days.
“If the additional fees are not returned to the students, the managing committee of those educational institutions will be postponed,” the court also warned.
Earlier on November 28, the same bench of the court issued a rule asking the authorities concerned and the school to explain as to why the extra fees should not be declared illegal.
The court’s move came amid allegations that schools charge SSC examinees more than the board-stipulated fees for signing up for the public tests.
