At least ten Dhaka University students have received injuries when the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of the university unit allegedly attacked them on Tuesday afternoon.

The injured are yet to be identified.

The incident happened on the campus around 5:30 pm when the activists of the ruling party’s student wing stepped into rescue the Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman, who has been besieged by a group of students.

Hundreds of demonstrating students took position outside the office of the VC around 12 noon, confining him inside it, to press home their three-point demand.

The agitating students, at one stage of their demonstration, broke into Vice Chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman’s office after parading through TSC, Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Business Studies in the campus, eyewitnesses from the spot have confirmed.

BCL leaders and activists went to the spot this afternoon and asked them to leave the spot and when the students refused their instructions, they allegedly attacked them, leaving at least 10 students injured.

Earlier in the day, the protesting students formed a human chain demo in front of Aparajeyo Bangla and paraded around the campus.

The movement came after some female students were allegedly assaulted by Bangladesh Chhatra League activists at a recent rally in the campus.  They demanded punishment of the alleged BCL men.
