The agitated students of Dhaka University, set fire to an effigy of the DU Proctor Prof Golam Rabbani, demanding withdrawal of cases filed against 50 to 60 students of the university over the recent movement.

On January 18, the cases were filed against unknown students with the Shahbagah Police Station accusing them of locking the proctor during a movement, demanding dissociation from seven affiliated colleges.

Earlier yesterday, Progotishil Chhatra Jote (PCJ) sealed off the main entrance of the Arts Building at Dhaka University protesting the recent attack of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the general students of the university.

At least ten Dhaka University students received injuries when the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of the university unit attacked them on January 23.

The incident took place on the campus when the activists of the ruling party’s student wing have stepped in to rescue the Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman, who has been besieged by a group of students.
