The students of East West University in the capital have blocked Badda-Rampura road demanding reformation of quota system and expressed their solidarity with the ongoing anti-quota demonstration this afternoon.

The demonstrators of quota reform movement have given an ultimatum to the authorities concerned, demanding the immediate release of their detained fellows.

At least 50 people, including five journalists, were injured as police launched an assault on the anti-quota demonstration held at the Shahbagh intersection in the capital on Sunday evening.

Police fired rubber bullets, used water cannons and lobbed teargas canisters to remove the protesters from Shahbagh intersection around 8pm in the night.

The job seekers and students of various educational institutions in the capital and elsewhere in the country have been demonstrating against the existing quota system in the government recruitment processes for more than a decade.

As part of their ongoing demonstration, a group of protesters blocked the Shahbagh intersection yesterday afternoon.
