Chittagong University (CU) students have put up a barricade at Sholosohor Rail Station in Chattagram demanding to publish gazette notification by abolishing quota system in government jobs, halting shuttle train movement since Monday morning.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Jakir Hossain, in-charge of Sholoshohor Police Outpost, has confirmed the news.
“A police team has been deployed in the area to bring the situation normal and avoid any untoward incidents here,” he added.
Earlier, the quota reform protestors have given the government an ultimatum to publish a gazette notification by abolishing quota system in the government recruitment processes by yesterday afternoon.
They have also threatened to boycott all classes and examinations in all universities and colleges across the country for an indefinite period from today.
Muhammad Rashed Khan, a joint convener of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, came up with the announcement on Sunday.
He said: "We will boycott all examinations and classes across the country if the government fails to issue the gazette by 5pm today (yesterday)."
Earlier in the day, students of different universities and colleges have observed a two-hour strike on campuses across the country.
Students and job seekers of the country have been demonstrating demanding reform of existing quota system in public recruitment for a long.
On April 12, the protesters called off the demonstration after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced to abolish quota system from the public recruitment.
