The authorities of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College have suspended the academic and administrative activities of the school until further notice amid growing student protests over the death of a female student.
Mustari Sultana, a sociology teacher and a representative of teachers to the school governing body, has confirmed the news.
School governing body made the decision after a group of students gathered outside the Viqarunnisa Noon School and College on Bailey Road in Dhaka for the second consecutive day today, demanding justice for Aritree Adhikary, a ninth grader, reportedly committed suicide after allegedly being rebuked by teachers for using mobile phone during the examination.
Earlier this morning, the authorities of Education Ministry directed the governing body to suspend three teachers of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College over the alleged suicide of the ill-fated schoolgirl Aritree Adhikari.
The teachers are known as acting principal Nazneen Ferdous, morning shift in-charge Zinnat Ara and class teacher Hasna Hena.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Tuesday (yesterday) warned that the actions would be taken against anyone found guilty over the death of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College’s student Aritree Odhikari.
The minister came up with the warning while visiting the college on the day morning.
Condemning the incident of suicide, the minister also said: “Actions will be taken against anyone found guilty behind the student’s suicide.”
The ministry has formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the alleged suicide of the ninth grader.
