A light plane crashed in a field near a flying club in Phuket’s Thalang district of Thailand on Saturday morning, killing the pilot and a mechanic, and injuring two flight students.

Authorities said the Narenthorn emergency centre was alerted to the crash at 10.20am, and that everyone on board the plane was Thai.

The plane apparently crashed just before it was about to land at Phuket Airpark in Paklok, east of Heroines Monument in Thalang.

The captain was identified as Watana Thinphang-nga and the mechanic as Narin Thaweewat.

Rescuers from the Wachira Phuket Hospital, Mission Phuket Hospital and Paklok Municipality rushed to the scene. The training plane carried the logo of the Siam Aviation Association and the name “Butterfly 05”.
