Sonam Kapoor, along with Akshay Kumar, is trying to ensure the well-being of women. The actress has asked a contribution of Rs. 400 from her fans all around in a video on a popular channel. She is doing so to facilitate a year-round supply of sanitary pads to women in various parts of the country.
Akshay Kumar had also earlier revealed that many women do not use sanitary pads even today, which can be harmful for health.
Sonam Kapoor told Mid-Day, "The average woman has periods for 3,000 days in her life. It affects all women, but is a topic that nobody wants to discuss. We wish to encourage an open discussion on the subject so that menstruation isn't looked down upon."
Swathi Mukherjee, director of the organisation, said, "Inaccessibility to sanitary pads is among the primary reasons behind girls dropping out of schools."
Directed by R. Balki and produced by Twinkle Khanna, ‘Padman’ also stars Radhika Apte in the lead role.
