Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday (today) donated Tk 20 lakh as financial assistance to ailing National Film Award-winning actor Afzal Sharif.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has handed over the cheque of Tk 20 lakh to the actor at Prime Minister’s Office in the capital today, the PMO sources have confirmed.
Afzal Sharif said: “I am suffering from spinal cord, waist and bone pain. I have to take therapies over the last four years.”
“When I stop taking therapies, I fell sick again and I have to stay away from professional cinematic works. Many people are asking me to take treatment outside the country. But I am unable to bear the expensive cost in abroad,” the National Film Award-winning actor added.
“Our prime minister has stood beside many artists before and so I hope that she will also be on my side too. I want to act again as I have before. I want to stay fit for the film.”
Afzal Sharif further said: “On September 13, I sought co-operation from the prime minister through a written application sent to the PMO, without finding any way for my treatment.”
Afzal Sharif won the Bangladesh National Film Award in the Best Actor category in Comic Role in 2010 while the popular film actor had acted in more than a thousand films in his distinguished cinema career in Dhaka.
