Two suspected criminals were killed in separate “gunfights” with law enforcers in Narayanganj and Kushtia early Friday.

Moniruzzaman Shahin, who was wanted in more than 20 cases, has been killed in Narayanganj "gunfight" while Shahin, an enlisted criminal and a murder case accused, was killed in Kushtia "crossfire."

In Narayanganj, acting on a tip-off, a team of detectives raided Galachipa area in the city around 4:30am on Friday.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Shahin and his cohorts opened fire on the detectives, triggering a "gunfight."

At one stage, Shahin's cohorts fled the scene while DB police found the bullet-hit body of the criminal. A pistol and four rounds of bullets were recovered from his possession, said Mizanur Rahman, SI of Narayanganj Detective Branch.

In Kushtia, Shahin was hit by a bullet during a "gunfight" with the police. Acting on a tip-off, police raided Kasbaghat area under Kumarkhali upazila around 4am to arrest the murder case accused.

Injured Shahin was taken to Kushtia General Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead, said Kumarkhali Police Station OC Abdul Khaleq.

He said: "Shahin was wanted in a case filed in connection with the murder of an expatriate. A number of firearms and local weapons were seized from the spot."
