Condemning the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this is totally unacceptable.
She said: "We cannot accept US President Donald Trump’s decision to move the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. The move would not help peace efforts and Jerusalem should ultimately be shared by Israel and a future Palestinian state."
She called upon the Muslim World to stand united against the US move and put forth efforts to form an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
The premier made the call while addressing a press conference over her recent Cambodia visit on Thursday.
US President Donald Trump has announced that the US now recognises Jerusalem as Israel's capital, overturning decades of official US policy.
Arabs and Muslims across the Middle East on Wednesday condemned the decision and Palestinians said Washington was abandoning its leading role as a peace mediator.
Israel, by contrast, applauded Trump’s move. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a pre-recorded video message that it was “an important step towards peace” and it was “our goal from Israel’s first day”.
