The Supreme Court today cleared the way for the authorities concerned to hold the recruitment tests for senior officers, officers and cash officers of three state-run banks.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain stayed till February 8 the HC order that halted the recruitment tests of Sonali, Rupali and Janata banks.

The chamber Judge passed the order on Thursday, responding to a plea filed by Bangladesh Bank, seeking a stay on the High Court order.

Now, this three banks can hold the recruitment tests along with five other state-run banks on January 12, said lawyers.

Earlier on January 7, the High Court halted the recruitment tests for senior officers, officers and cash officers of Sonali, Rupali and Janata banks.

The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan came up with the order after hearing a writ petition challenging last year’s job circulars issued by eight banks.

In response to the petition, the High Court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why they should not be directed to hold the recruitments tests as per the circulars issued in 2016 before holding the tests on the basis of the circulars issued in 2017.

According to the writ petition, the authorities of Bangladesh Bank has issued a combined circular on December 26 in 2017 for recruitments in the eight state-run banks without holding the tests according to 2016 circular.
