Kuwait announces amnesty for residency violators

A- A A+

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior (MOI) has announced an amnesty period from 29 January to 22 February 2018 during which time illegal expatriates will have the option to either legalize their residency status by paying the required fines or leaving the country without paying fines.

The amnesty is applicable to all illegal residents in Kuwait, except those who have been banned from travelling or cannot travel due to pending court cases.

In a notification, the MOI has confirmed the news on Tuesday.

Mizan Al Rahman, a Bangladeshi health technology professional living in Kuwait, told Kalerkantho: “It is good news for Bangladeshi people living here.”

Last time in 2016, the residency violators were allowed to legalize their status or pay their fines and leave the country, without denying them a chance to come back, only if they voluntarily come forward.
