The Supreme Court has cleared the way for the authorities concerned to resume the recruitment process for 2,201 posts of senior officer, officer, and cash officer of Sonali Bank.
The four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order, dismissing five separate leave to appeal petitions filed by 474 candidates.
Earlier, the applicants for the posts of Sonali Bank filed the writ petitions with the High Court challenging the legality of three recruitment circulars issued on February 22, 2016.
On February 22, 2016, the authorities the state-run bank issued three separate circulars for recruiting a total of 2,201 senior officer, officer and cash officers for the bank.
The petitioners claimed that qualified the recruitment test of the bank held on the basis of the circular issued on January 31, 2014.
According to the candidates, they were not recruited despite their names were enlisted in the merit list.
On July 27 last year, the HC rejected their petitions. Later, they filed the leave to appeal petitions with the SC challenging the HC judgement.
In response, an SC chamber judge directed the authorities to maintain status quo on the process for recruitment to the posts under the circulars issued on February 22, 2016.
The apex court today lifted the status quo on the process for recruitment.
