The leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) started staging hunger strike demanding immediate release of their party chief Begum Khaleda Zia.

Hundreds of BNP leaders and activists gathered in front of the Jatiya Press Club at 10am and they will stay there until 4pm on Wednesday, according to a source of BNP.

BNP Standing Committee Members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury were present in the hunger strike among others while it's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir could not attend the programme as he appeared before a court in the capital, Kalerkantho Bangla version reported quoting BNP leaders.

Earlier, BNP leaders and followers formed a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Monday and staged a sit-in programme in front of party’s Nayapaltan central office on Tuesday protesting the imprisonment of Khaleda Zia by a lower court in a graft case.
