BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda, who is in jail after being convicted, has filed an appeal challenging the lawyer court's verdict in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on Tuesday.
Khaleda’s lawyers filed the appeal with the High Court at around 2:30pm after they got the certified copy of the much-talked verdict yesterday.
The High Court has fixed Thursday for hearing on the appeal of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the graft case. The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim will also hear the bail plea on the same day.
Former attorney general AJ Mohammad Ali, former law minister Barrister Moudod Ahmed, Barrister Jamiruddin Sarkar, ACC law specialist Advocate Abdur Razzak, Supreme Court Lawyers Association President and BNP Vice-Chairman Joynul Abedin, BNP Joint Secretary General Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, BNP Chairperson’s Lawyer Sanaullah Miah, Barrister Kaysar Kamal and Barrister Masud Tarafdar were present while lodging the appeal.
Earlier on February 8, a special court in Dhaka convicted the former prime minister and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
