A court in Chandpur today sentenced death penalty to five people for killing shopkeeper Masud Rana in 2008.
Additional District Judge MD Mamunur Rashid handed down the verdict on Tuesday as the allegation against five people was proved undoubtedly.
The death row convicts are—Yasin Bepari, Abdul Khalek Mollah, Faruk alias Nobi, Selim Majhi and Ali Munsi.
The court also released three other accused of the case due to insufficient evidence of their involvement in the murder.
Of the convicts, Faruk alias Nobi and Ali Munsi were present when the verdict was delivered while three other convicts have been absconding since the incident occurred.
According to the case statement, five convicts killed shopkeeper Masud Rana by suffocation on October 5, 2008, following a feud. Later, deceased’s father Rabiul Darji filled a murder case.
