JCD leader Zakir dies in jail

A central unit leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), who was picked up on March 6 from a human chain demonstration, has died after he suddenly fell sick in jail.

Zakir Hussain, the vice-president of Dhaka Metropolitan North unit JCD and also the acting president of Keraniganj unit JCD, was declared dead when he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the morning.

Officer-in-Charge of Shahabag Police Station Abul Hasan confirmed the death. 

Zakir was captured from a human chain demonstration on March 6. Later, he was placed on a three-day remand. 

After the completion of the remand he was produced before the court and the court later sent him to the jail.

The BNP has alleged that he died due to police torture while police denied the allegation.
