3 Noakhali war criminals awarded death penalty

A tribunal in Dhaka has awarded death penalty to three razakars of Noakhali district for their involvement in war crimes.

The death row convicts are-- Amir Ali, 70, Md Joynal Abedin, 73, and Abul Kalam alias AKM Mansur, 67. 

International Crimes Tribunal led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam pronounce the verdict on Tuesday.

The tribunal also sentenced 20 years imprisonment to another convict Abdul Kuddus, 84.

Of the convicts, Abul Kalam alias AKM Mansur is currently absconding. The tribunal has ordered the authorities concerned to take necessary steps in arresting him.

The tribunal framed three charges against the four convicts for killing at least 111 people in three incidents on June 20, 2016.

On October 5, 2015, the prosecution pressed charges against five "war criminals" from Noakhali. 

Later, one of the accused Mohammad Yusuf died of old age complications.
