At least 20 people were reportedly hurt after police foiled the demonstration against the quota system in government jobs with batons and tear gas in the capital today.
Meanwhile, the law enforcers have picked up three demonstrators from in front of the High Court premises.
According to witnesses, the police swooped on the protesters near the High Court this afternoon when they tried to march towards Bangladesh Secretariat.
Coordinator of Bangladesh Shadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad Rashedul Islam said: "We started our today's programme from in front of the central library of the Dhaka University.
"Later, police attacked us near the High Court premises when we were trying to move towards the Secretariat."
Contacted, Abul Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station, said: "We just removed them from the street to avert any untoward situation. Three people were detained from the spot."
