At least four people were killed and 20 others injured as a train veered off the rail track on Sunday noon in Tongi area of Gazipur.
The casualties were admitted to Tongi General Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Confirming the information, Atikur Rahman, station officer of fire and civil defense of Tongi said: “Four compartments of Dhaka-bound 'Jamalganj Commuter' veered off the rail track in Notun Bazar area of Tongi, leaving three people dead and 20 others injured on the spot. Another one died in the hospital.”
Rail communication of northern districts with Dhaka remained suspended after the accident took place around 12:5pm.
