Students, who had been demonstrating for reforms in the country's quota system in the government recruitment processes, have staged a demonstration, demanding the immediate removal of the Sufia Kamal hall provost.
The students on Friday were protesting forcing out several students of their dormitory early Friday, bringing out a rally carrying banners and festoons.
“It is rare in the world to get students out of the hall at night,” said Nurul Huq Nur, a joint convener of Bangladesh Shadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad.
At least 50 female students of Dhaka University have allegedly been ousted from Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall on Thursday night while the Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman said that three students of Sufia Kamal Hall were handed over to their guardians on Thursday for spreading falsehood and rumors in social media.
According to the sources, Sabita Rezwana Rahman, the provost of the hall, asked two female students to leave the hall citing their alleged involvement in spreading "rumors" on Facebook on the night of April 10.
Asked, the relatives of the students stated that the hall authorities asked them not to talk to anyone on this issue.
The students alleged that the provost of the hall called eight residents in her room and seized their mobile phones around 6pm on Thursday.
And later based on their Facebook records, she asked four students to leave the dormitory.
Isha allegedly beat up her party fellow Morsheda Khanom for joining protests for reform of quota system in government jobs on April 10.
Following the assault, the general students staged a protest and assaulted Isha the same night.
The disciplinary board later served a show cause notice on 26 students of the hall for their alleged involvement with the assault of Isha.
