Noted poet Belal Chowdhury has died at a hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajioon). He was 79.
Belal Chowdhury was put on life support after his health deteriorated at a hospital in Dhaka on April 20.
His son Abdullah Pratik Yusuf Chowdhury has confirmed the news.
The poet was undergoing treatment at Anwar Khan Modern Hospital for around four months.
He was suffering from anaemia, kidney and thyroid complications.
Belal Chowdhury was born on November 12 in 1938. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1984, Mazharul Islam Poetry Award in 2013 and Ekushey Padak in 2014.
Chowdhury served Bharat Bichitra as its editor published from Indian embassy in Dhaka. He was also an editor of the Shaptahik Sandwip published by Rupali Group and Krittibas, a Bengali poetry magazine, edited by Sunil Gangopadhyay.
