Rackless driving has once made the headlines as another person lost his life in a "race" between two buses of Manjil and Shraban Super Paribahans in the capital.
Victim Nazim Uddin, 32, an official of English daily Dhaka Tribune, was declared dead soon after he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
According to the witnesses, the incident took place on Thursday morning when Nazim was going to Gulistan from his home in Jatrabari riding his motorbike.
Confirming the death, Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost In-charge SI Bachchu Mia said: "He fell prey to the race between two buses of Manjil and Shraban Super Paribahans. When his motorbike reached Mayor Hanif Flyover, the bus of Shraban Super Paribahan hit it from the behind and when Nazim fell on the street, the recklessly-driven bus ran him over, leaving him critically injured."
"Two youths rescued him from the flyover and brought to The DMCH where on-duty doctors declared him dead at 10:20am," he added.
Nazim's colleagues said his wife is still undergoing treatment at a hospital as she gave birth to a baby girl three days ago.
Family members and colleagues demanded exemplary punishment for the responsible bus drivers and called upon the authorities concerned to provide them with necessary support.
Contacted, Jatrabari Police Station OC Azizur Rahman said: "Being informed, police have seized both the buses and captured one driver and one conductor from the spot."
"We will arrest another driver in a short time and the next course of action will be taken as per the law," he added.
