The authorities of Dhaka University have issued show cause notices against at least 25 female students for allegedly harassing Sufia Kamal Hall BCL unit President Iffat Jahan Isha.
The notice signed by DU Proctor Prof Golam Rabbani was issued on Thursday, asking the 25 residents of Sufia Kamal Hall to explain within 15 days why no action would be taken against them as per the recommendation of the disciplinary board.
The university authorities will take necessary action against the respondents of the notice if they fail to submit any satisfactory explanation within the period, it added.
Earlier on April 10, Isha was expelled from the front organisation of the ruling Awami League (AL) soon after some photos of a victim went viral on social media claiming that she is being tortured by Isha for taking part in the quota reform demonstrations.
The DU authorities also suspended Isha from the university immediately after the news of torturing the two female students spread.
The incident sparked a protest among the Sufia Kamal students and the general students put a garland of shoes around her neck the same night.
Later, she was reinstated to her post on April 13 as a probe body found her to be innocent.
