BNP's rebel mayoral candidate Badruzzaman Selim stepped aside from the upcoming Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) polls giving support to his party nominated candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury.
BNP mayoral candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury was set to face a tough challenge in the upcoming Sylhet City Corporation polls as he had to fight the election against his party rebel mayor aspirant Badruzzaman Selim and other contestants as well.
Badruzzaman Selim came up with the decision while addressing a press conference at the residence of Ariful Haque Chowdhury on Thursday.
The BNP leader also promised to support his party nominated mayoral candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury in the upcoming election.
Briefing journalists, Selim said: "I have stepped aside myself from the election, respecting the decision of party. I withdrew myself from the mayoral election as the senior leaders of BNP came to my home and requested to quit and support Ariful Haque Chowdhury."
Following his announcement, the party has given him back the post of General Secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan BNP which was withdrawn earlier.
BNP chairperson's adviser Aman Ullah Aman, Vice Chairman Md Sahjahan, mayoral candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Sylhet Metropolitan BNP president Nasim Hossain, Sylhet District BNP General Secretary Ali Ahmad and Metropolitan BNP Acting General Secretary Ajmal Bakht were present, among others, in the press conference.
