Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday suddenly appeared on roads and started checking the documents of vehicles.
The activities of the minister were noticed on several roads of capital’s Babu Bazar area in the old part of the city in presence of newsmen.
In the sudden drive, the minister stopped several vehicles, including the cars of media, and checked documents.
Obaidul Quader also instructed on-duty police members to restrict plying of battery-run autorickshaws on the busy roads.
The minister, also Awami League general secretary, exchanged views with locals on the present situation of the vehicular movement.
After the drive, Obaidul Quader told the journalists: “I instructed BRTA chairman to take necessary measures so that people can pay the fine and other related fees through mobile banking. To avoid the hassles, the government is committed to keeping the monitoring continued.”
