Police arrested two people, including a chief of an online news portal, over spreading rumours during students’ demonstration through social networking sites.
The arrestees are—Yosuf Chowdhury, the chief executive officer of zoombangla.com and Daiyan Alam, a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
They were shown arrested in two separate cases filed with Ramna Police Station under the ICT act.
Confirming the information, Nazmul Alam, additional deputy commissioner of cyber crime unit of police, said: “We have arrested two of them over the allegation of spreading rumours through the social networking tools during the nationwide students' protests. Their computers, mobiles and laptops have also been seized.”
“Both of them have been creating contents with fabricated and false information that confused people vastly,” he added.
