The High Court on Tuesday granted bail for six months to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a case filed in a Dhaka court over the allegation of derogatory remarks on the number of freedom fighters and contribution of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the liberation war.
The High Court bench of Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice Kashefa Hossain passed the order today.
On December 21, 2015, BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia allegedly raised questions about the number of freedom fighters and contribution of Bangabandhu in the war of liberation while addressing a programme in the capital, according to the case statements.
Later on January 5, 2017, AB Siddik, president of Jononetri Parishad, filed a defamation case with a court of Dhaka against Khaleda Zia.
Earlier on February 8, a court here in Dhaka convicted BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to five years rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
