Long tailback was created on both sides of Dhaka-Chattogram highway this morning, causing immense sufferings to the commuters, especially the Edi-ul-Azha holidaymakers.
Several hundred vehicles were stuck on both sides on the busy highway.
A 22-km tailback has occurred on Chottogram-Dhaka Highway stretching from Hasanpur to Sonargaon Chourasta while a 20-km traffic congestion was seen on Dhaka-Chottogram Highway stretching from Sonargaon to Gomoti Bridge.
Rahmat Ullah, additional superintendent of highway police in Cumilla region, blamed the construction work and the huge rush of the vehicles ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha to be celebrated on August 22.
Though the highway police are trying to ease the vehicular movement, it would be difficult for them to bring the situation under control for the construction work, he added.
